Alps START – Start of Term Analysis, Results and Trends

Get your data to us in Results weeks for benchmarks based on 2024 Alps client data

In September 2022 and 2023, we provided schools and colleges in England with A level and KS4 analysis based on data submitted to Alps from clients. This analysis was made available through a benchmark toggle in Connect.

The client benchmarks were generated in response to the unique nature of examination outcomes in Summer 2022 for both Key Stages, and in 2023 for Key Stage 5 students.

The situation for examination outcomes for Key Stage 5 is again set to be unique this summer:
  1. Students completing their Key Stage 5 courses have elevated prior attainment baselines from the Key Stage 4 outcomes in 2022. The overall standards are likely to remain similar to 2019 levels. This will cause analysis based on the 2019 DfE National data on Results Day to be more ‘blue’ than perhaps it is in reality

Students completing Key Stage 4 courses will the guaranteed protection from 2023 outcomes removed. The benchmark in Connect on Results Day will be the 2023 DfE National data. It is difficult to predict how 2024 standards will relate to last year.

T Levels

On Results Day it will be possible to submit your T level examination results, uploading them into Connect Data. We will carry out a feasibility study on results submitted by Alps clients. The study will determine whether or not we can produce MEGs and thermometers from the T level data.

Our timeline for T level feasibility is as follows: initiate feasibility Thursday 26 September 2024
Communication of outcomes to schools and colleges: Monday 30 September 2024

In order for our feasibility study to yield important T level benchmarks we need as much client data as possible. Get your data into Connect to support in making a T level benchmark possible by Wednesday 25 September.

Default benchmarks for Results Days

1. Key Stage 5: On Results Day, the default benchmark in Connect will be the 2019 DfE National dataset. Your analysis for Key Stage 5 qualifications will be based on this benchmark.

2. Key Stage 4: On Results Day, the default benchmark in Connect will be the 2023 DfE National dataset

We have decided to again provide a benchmark toggle option, where you can switch your analysis to view it against the client benchmark, ie the data to submitted to Alps in the days following Results Days.

Timeline

The diagram below indicates when you can expect to see the client benchmarks into Connect. For example, for A level we would expect to have the toggle in Connect prior to the start of term.

In order to achieve this timeline, to ensure that it is robust and to have your data included, we would ask that you submit your examination results to Connect Data by 5pm on Friday of Results weeks.

1.      A level and BTEC – submit your data on:

a.       Results Day – Thursday 15 August

b.       Friday 16 August

2.      GCSE – submit your data on:

a.      Results Day – Thursday 22 August

b.       Friday 23 August
