This article will show you how to create an in-year Monitoring Point. You can create as many Monitoring Points as you want - there is no limit. We recommend anything from 4-6 per year group, per academic year.
You may have a different name for what we call a monitoring point - you might call it a 'Data Drop' or 'Assessment Point'. Monitoring Points can include data such as; Mocks, Expected Grades, Targets, Predicted Grades, Assessment Grades etc.
Monitoring Points are designed to help you and your colleagues track your students progress throughout the year so that when they come to sit their final exams you know that they are hitting their targets.
Please watch our video guide below, or see our step-by-step guide underneath:
Step-by-step Guide:
First, you need to make sure you have imported your Student, Prior Attainment and Teaching Data for your year groups:
Then click into the Gradepoints section and click on the Create New Monitoring Point button:
This opens the import wizard, where you can select the year group you want to import data for and then name the Monitoring Point. You can choose any name for the Monitoring Point within a 12 character limit - we recommend naming it something that makes sense to you and something that relates to the type of data you are importing e.g Y13 Mocks:
Then prepare your data in Excel using either a row per entry format (you need the Student ID, Subject Name, Grade and Series for this import):
Or a Marksheet format:
Then choose the format you are using from the third step of the import:
Then import your data into the fourth step of the import, you can either open the file in the top window or copy and paste into the bottom:
Then you'll need to map your columns, if you are using a row per subject format you'll only need to map Student ID, Subject and Grade:
If you are using a Marksheet format, you will only need your Student ID and Subject column headers - on this step you can click on the 'Map Remaining Columns as Subjects' button to map all of your subject column headers in bulk:
After clicking 'Map Remaining Columns as Subjects' your column headers will all turn Green:
Map your subjects:
Fix any errors (if you have them):
Finish the import:
After finishing the import, you monitoring point will be created:
You'll then need to click on the Check and Publish button:
Then in the next screen, click publish in the bottom right hand corner:
Then click publish in the window that opens in the middle of the screen:
This will publish your monitoring point and make it live for all users in the Alps account, meaning that they can now analyse the data in this monitoring point you have just created:
