Import your Exam Results

Import your Exam Results

Exam Results imports are reserved for the End of Year examination grades that your students receive on Results Day. Any other grades should be entered as a monitoring point. You will be able to import these Exam Results on or before results day (during the JCQ embargo period).

Data Required for Import

To upload your exam results you will need an excel file with columns: Student ID, Subject, Grade and Series (this is the season when the student is sitting their final examinations e.g. Summer 2024). Your file can be in a Row per Entry or Row per Student format:
  1. Row per Entry Template
  2. Row per Student Template

Step by Step Guide

The first step to importing your results is to click into Manage Data from the homepage:

Once you're in Manage Data, you then need to click into the Gradepoints section that you can find from the left-hand side of your screen:

After clicking into the Gradepoints section, you then need to click on the Add Exam Results button:

After clicking on Add Exam Results, the import wizard should open and you then need to select the Key Stage of the results you are importing:

After selecting the Key Stage, you then need to click Next in the bottom right to continue the import:

The next step will then allow you to prepare your data in Excel before you import it. If you use SIMS then you will be able to download the SIMS report definitions from this step so you can extract your data from SIMS into Excel.

This article will show you how to export your Exam Results from SIMS: Exporting Data from SIMS

For non-SIMS users, the Excel Import tab will show you a preview of what your data needs to look like. You can download the Rows Per Subject and Marksheet templates for Excel here too.

Once you have prepared your data in Excel, you then need to move on to the 3rd step of the import to select the correct format of your data.

It's very important that you select the format that you are using on this step, as selecting the incorrect format will present errors later in the import.

Then on the 4th step of the import, you can import your data. You can either drag and drop your Excel file into the top box, or copy and paste your data directly from Excel into the bottom box:

Before importing your data, please check your Column and Subject Mapping section in Connect and make sure that the subject names in your Excel file are the same as the subject names in this section. This will save you a lot of time when you come to import your data, as your subjects will automatically map when you import your data:

After you have imported your data, you'll get a preview of what it looks like. The only coulumns you need are Student ID, Subject, Grade and Series:

You'll then need to map any column headers on the next step. You won't be able to move on from this step until your Student ID, Subject, Grade and Series columns have been successfully mapped.

You'll then need to map any subjects that haven't automatically mapped from your saved subject mappings.

This article will show you how to map your subjects: Subject Mapping

You should then have no errors in your data, but if you do, this article will show you how to fix them: Fix Errors

You'll get a final preview of your data on the last step, and once you're happy you can click Finish in the bottom right of the import:

After clicking Finish, you'll then need to click on the Check and Publish option on the Gradepoint to make your data live for users so you and your colleagues can start analysing the results in the analysis sections in Connect:

Once your Gradepoint has been published successfully, it will turn green and be live for users:

You'll then be able to download your end of year report from the My Reports section on the homepage:
