Importing your Exam Results

Importing your Exam Results

Exam Results imports are reserved for the End of Year examination grades that your students receive on Results Day. Any other grades should be entered as a Monitoring Point. You will be able to import these Exam Results on or before results day (during the JCQ embargo period).

The following data is required for this import: Student ID, Subject Name, Grade and Series (this is the season when the student is sitting their final examinations e.g. Summer 2025). You can use either a Row per Exam Entry format or a Marksheet format.

Please watch our video guide below:

Step-by-step Guide
The first step to importing your results is to click on the Data Management section from the homepage and then click Cohorts:

Before importing your exam results, you need to make sure you have at least imported your Student Data and Prior Attainment data. In the Cohorts screen, if the current academic year looks like the screenshot below, then you will be able to import your exam results (please note Teaching Data and Personalised Targets are not required before importing results):

Then click on Gradepoints in the left menu. Once you're in the Gradepoints section, you should see the Add Exam Results button. Please click this to open the import wizard:

After you have opened the import, please select which key stage you want to import results for:

Once you've selected your key stage, click Next in the bottom right-hand corner and then prepare your data in Excel. If you use SIMS, you can use the report definitions to export your results from SIMS into Excel. We also have report definitions available for Arbor and ISAMs.

Those report definitions will export your data into Excel so you can import the data into Alps. If you don't use any of the MIS' mentioned, you'll need to make sure your data is in one of our accepted formats, detailed in the Excel Import tab:

Your data can either be in a Row per Entry format:

Or in a Marksheet format:

Whichever format you're using, you need to make sure you choose the correct option from the 3rd step of the import:

Then import your data, either by dragging and dropping your file into the top box, or copy and pasting your data into the bottom box:

Then, map your columns. You only need the Student ID, Subject Name, Grade and Series columns for this import:

Map any subject names you need to map, any subject names you have previously used in Alps Connect will automatically be recognised and matched with your previous mapping. If there are any subjects that are unrecognised, they will be highlighted in red and you'll need to press the edit pencil to find the Alps subject mapping:

Fix any errors - if you have grade errors this article will show you how to resolve them: Grade Errors

Then finish the import on the final step by clicking Finish in the bottom right-hand corner:

Finally, click on the Check & Publish button on the exam results Gradepoint:

Then click Publish in the bottom right:

Then click Publish in the window that opens in the middle of the screen:

Once published, your Gradepoint will be Green and it will say 'Live for users' - this means whoever has the early access privilege will be able to see the exam results in Alps during the JCQ embargo period, and all users will be able to see the results on results day.

Publishing your Gradepoint will automatically generate your end of year PDF report - you will be able to download this from the homepage by clicking My Reports in the Reports & Downloads tab. This will open your reports page, where you can download the PDFs.
