Change of name in Connect and Summit: L3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales - January 2026

Change of name in Connect and Summit: L3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales - January 2026

This article gives a brief summary of what you can expect to see in Connect and Summit following our update to the naming of the L3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales.

The naming update was released into the platform on 20/01/2026. It replaced the legacy qualification: Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate. You do not have to take any immediate action as all subject mapping has been updated automatically.

What has changed: naming convention

  1. In Connect and Summit, the L3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales will appear as: L3 Bacc - Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales. This includes mapping in Connect Data.
  2. The older qualification, the Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate will now appear as WBQ - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (Legacy).

Implementation with respect to Academic Years

  1. In Connect and Summit, the L3 Bacc - Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales is the qualification used from all gradepoints from September 2024 onwards, including 2025 Results (2024/25).
  2. The older qualification, the WBQ - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (Legacy) will appear for all gradepoints up to and including Results 2024 (2023/24).

Benchmarks used in Connect and Summit

Both the new and legacy qualifications will share a benchmark. In other words, the benchmark will be identical when you are on Toggle 1: the national data benchmark selection.
However, the Toggle 2 Customer benchmark is built from Welsh schools only and pertinent to the Results season in which it was constructed. Therefore, the Customer benchmark for 2025 outcomes will have been generated from Welsh schools in September 2025, and will be for the L3 Bacc - Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales only.

Display in Connect and Summit

The way in which the two qualifications will be displayed in Connect and Summit is nuanced and described below.
  1. The subjects will appear in subject tables on two separate rows.
  2. In the Subject Overview view, the way in which subjects are displayed in the table depends on the gradepoint you have assigned as the Main gradepoint. Subjects not included in this gradepoint will not be displayed
    1. For example, if I have selected an examination gradepoint trend, then 2024/25 becomes my main gradepoint. As 2024/25 only contains the newer L3 Bacc - Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales, then I will not see the legacy qualification in a row.

    2. If I switch back my main gradepoint to be 2023/24, then I see the legacy qualification row appear.

  3. If you want to see both subjects appearing in the grid....
    1. Chose 2024/25 as you gradepoint trend
    2. Create a Strategic session for A level
    3. Navigate to the Subject Value Added tab
