2025 National Benchmarks: FAQs

2025 National Benchmarks: FAQs

QuestionAnswerRelevant Links
How do I get the new benchmark?

The benchmarks have been automatically applied to Connect and Summit. You do not have to do anything.
Can I still see the old analysis to compare the changes?

You will not be able to see your previous analysis from within the platform. You can however, still access your Provider/Group Report versions that have the previous benchmarks applied.

Do I get a new Provider Report based and the new benchmarks?

We will re-run the Provider/Group Reports on the publication of the KS5 Vocational benchmarks in the week beginning 16 March. This is because we do not want you to have multiple repeat copies of old vocational reports.

What will the changes to my analysis be?

We have articles which will highlight the general value-added changes we expect to see across all Alps Customers. These inferences have been made from our internal analysis of value-added shifts when we switch customers between the different datasets.

How do I explain the changes to staff and stakeholders?

We recommend reading our articles to ensure that you are fully informed on the changes expected when switching benchmarks from 2019 DfE to 2025 DfE.
It is important that staff recognise that whilst 2019 DfE was broadly predicted to be in line with 2025 progress outcomes, it was never going to be exact. The 2025 DfE benchmarks now represent a new baseline for KS5 progress post-pandemic. They also present value-added in line with DfE performance measures for 2025.

Why are you releasing A levels before Vocational?

The analysis of the full national dataset takes some time. We felt it was important to release the A-level in the first instance, as feedback from customers indicates that the majority of colleagues would appreciate incremental updates as soon as benchmarks are available.

Why are you changing the benchmarks halfway through the year?

The benchmarks for 2025 present us with an opportunity to 'reset' the value-added picture to a post-pandemic norm. Whilst our customer benchmarks for A level have been found to be representative of the national for 2025, we have taken this as an opportunity to overwrite the previous national benchmark from 2019. The 2025 DfE dataset is indeed a like-for-like representation of the data from Summer 2025, and presents us with a new baseline for 2026 outcomes. The 2019 DfE benchmark has served its purpose, but again, customer feedback has very much been aligned to getting the 2025 datasets into the platforms as soon as they are available.
This will also help you align DfE progress measures with your Alps analysis.

When will the benchmarks be released?

Whilst we cannot give specific times in advance, we will use our in app messaging service to keep you updated on timescales as we approach releases.
The A level benchmarks were released on 19 February.

Timeline for release

Do I need to do anything in my Summit account?

Your Summit analysis will be recalculated centrally by Alps. You do not have to do anything to your account.

How long will it take to update my Summit analysis?

We have a large number of Summit accounts and recalculations are run through a queuing system. This means that collectively the accounts will take some time to update across a release day. You will be notified through the messaging service in the top right hand corner of your account when recalculations have completed.

Why does my Alps grade look different from what I expected?

It is impossible for us to predict every value-added grade across your analysis. Alps grades are dependent on factors such as the distribution of students' prior attainment and curriculum structure, for example. Do please get in touch if you want to discuss any aspect of your analysis.
