The strategic indicator known as the Quality Indicator (QI) tells you about the progress made across all examination entries in your selected Gradepoint. It contains every grade taken by each subject and gives you a clear view of how your overall curriculum performed this year. The subjects taken by more students will have most impact on this indicator, as well as their outcomes.
The QI is calculated using the below formula, which takes your expected points away from your actual points. Expected points are the points equivalent of your Alps Minimum Expected Grades (MEGs) and actual points are the equivalent points of the grades achieved by your students in the selected Gradepoint. Therefore, if every student matched their 75th percentage target (MEG) in each subject, your score would be 1.00.
For KS4, the calculation is slightly different, with the x100 multiplier changing to x5 to bring the calculation in line with GCSE points.
Below is a screenshot from an A-Level Interactive Session in the strategic area of Connect showing the calculation made to determine the QI Score and the contribution of some of the examination subjects sat next to this score. The above calculation is displayed at the bottom of this table.
We plot the Quality Indicator score on our thermometers and produce a Quality Indicator Grade between 1-9, to show how your overall performance compares to the rest of the dataset. A score of 1-3 puts you in the top 25% of the dataset for value added progress, scores 4-6 are around the average progress and scores 7-9 are in the lower 25% of the dataset.
