Ascent Student Analysis
The Students zone gives you a student-level view of performance — starting with an overview of every student in a year group, and drilling down into an individual report card for each one. It's made up of two parts: the Students overview page, and the individual student report card you reach by clicking on a student.
As elsewhere in Ascent, the Academic Year and Year Group filters at the top right apply to the whole page, so check these are set correctly before reviewing the data.
Students Overview
The Students overview page lists every student in the selected year group as a single table, with one row per student. Columns include:
- Student ID
- Surname and Forename
- Academic Year and Year Group
- Tutor Group
- Above / On / Below – the number of subject grades that are above, on, or below target for that student
- Avg. Grade – the student's average grade across all subjects, shown as a coloured badge
- Avg. Score – the student's average score relative to target
Clicking on any of the grade or Avg Score columns sorts the table by either ascending or descending values.
A Filters button above the table lets you narrow the list down by Tutor Group, Avg. Grade and Demographic, and an Export button lets you download the current view to Excel for use outside of Ascent.
Student Report Card
Clicking on any student's name or Student Key from the overview table takes you through to their individual report card. This is made up of three sections:
Personal Details shows the student's core information: Student ID, Gender, Academic Year, Year Group, EAL status, Disadvantaged status, SEND status, and their Latest Avg. Grade as a coloured badge.
Grade Trend plots the student's overall score over time as a solid line, against a dotted Cohort average line, letting you see at a glance whether the student is tracking above or below their peers and whether that gap is closing or widening.
Subject List shows the student's performance in every subject they take, with:
- Start Band – the band they started the year in for that subject
- One column per gradepoint, showing their grade at that point (as a coloured badge) — the report card can display progress across up to 4 gradepoints at once
- Score – their current score relative to target in that subject
- Trend – a small sparkline showing the shape of their progress across gradepoints for that subject
Because the report card brings personal context (SEND, EAL, Disadvantaged status), overall trend, and subject-by-subject detail together on one page, it's a useful page to have open in parent meetings, progress reviews, or pastoral conversations about an individual student.
